nhat_leNhat and Le, Summer 2010

If you want others to be happy practice compassion, and if you want yourself happy practice compassion.

His Holiness The Dalai Lama one said:” If you want others to be happy practice compassion, and if you want yourself happy practice compassion.” His saying taught us to live our lives compassionately in order to connect with other fellow beings and with the world we live in.

Last summer my wife celebrated compassionate service to others at Phuoc Loc Vocational School as a way to pursue true happiness.

It was a honor to work as volunteers over there.  In the past we had participated in volunteer work in China but this was a memorable, rewarding, and exciting experience.  This was the first time that I taught English to the Vietnamese students in Vietnam.  We applauded the Vincent de Paul sisters who running the housekeeping program which giving the opportunity of helping poor, young female to become self-sufficient with dignity.  We’re touched and humbled by the possibility of giving a hand to help these students.  The assignments enabled us to become active participants in a positive environment, re-learn the Vietnam value, share our knowledge, and enjoy to watch beautiful smiles from the students.

Thank you Hong Bang for giving us this beautiful experience that never happened to me as a teacher of 30 years in America.
